At the beginning of January we bought and moved into our second house! In August 2021 we moved back to Kansas City after living in Pittsburg for 8 years. We absolutely loved our home in Pitt, it had a big yard, a big garage for Josh and every bit of it was custom designed by us. It truly was our home. Our new house is newer and doesn’t need as much work as our first house, which is nice, but it’s missing those signature “Josh” things that he added to our old house, like TONS of outlets on every wall and the professional handy work he put into everything. He’s already had to replace two toilets in this house because they weren’t up to par. But for the most part this house was move-in ready and we’ll be able to make the updates we want at a much slower pace. Which is very much needed in this season of our lives.
Living Room/Entry

When you first walk into our home the living room welcomes you in, the fireplace and coffered ceiling make this room feel so homey and it is the room we spend the most time in. We have since bought a comfy sectional and we’re looking forward to making this part of our home warm and inviting. I’m thinking navy and gold tones throughout the room to match the new rug my parents bought us. We also love the built-in bookshelf on the wall between the living room and kitchen. I’m excited to style it more and I think it will be a great place to put holiday decor!
Dining Room

The windows in our dining room are one of my favorite features in this house. I love opening them up each morning. They fill the main living space with so much light! I am looking forward to getting a big farmhouse table to fill this room but for now our tiny table works. I really want to buy some black Windsor back chairs and maybe even paint the door black to match. So excited for all of the meals we will host in this space.
Kitchen

I am so looking forward to refreshing this kitchen eventually. I suppose it will depend on how long we live here and what our budget looks like but I’d love to put a coat of deep blue paint on the cabinets and maybe update the back splash to a white subway tile too! New counter tops are a must though; the current counters are tile and grouted. I don’t know why people keep grouting kitchen countertops but it needs to stop! 🙂 It is particularly horrible when baking but honestly I’ve had worse tile counter situations. I can probably live with this one for a while.
Laundry Room

I think this will be the first room that we really make some changes to. We’re hoping to optimize this space and make it more of a pantry too! We plan to stack the washer and dryer and add some storage in the space next to it. We’ll also add storage next to the window and give the room a little makeover with new paint and maybe some new tile too.
Hallway

Nothing much to say about the hallway, not a huge fan of the lighting, it can be very dim but we’ll probably just update paint and add lots of family photos to the walls!
Guest Bedroom/Office

Right now we are using this room as a makeshift office until we get the basement set up as a joint office for Josh and me. But ultimately we’d really like it to be a guest room so we can have a place for friends to stay. We believe our home is meant to be shared, we’ve had a few people live with us over the years and we’d like to have a room set up to share as long as the space is available.
Hall Bath

I know I want to paint this room, I’m not a huge fan of the blue walls. I also wish that the vanity had drawers. That is a recent discovery, it’s such a dark color that I just never noticed. But I’m definitely going to have to get a good under the sink organizer to keep Brooklyn’s bathroom things in as she gets bigger. It is a nice hall bath though and perfect for guests.
Master Bedroom/Bathroom

I’m so excited to make this room an oasis. I want to make it a bright, airy space where we can just go to relax. We’re planning to purchase a king sized bed to fill this room up a little more and I’m thinking a big chair in the corner near the dresser will make this space perfect. In the master bathroom I want to paint the vanity a Robin’s Egg blue color and add some shiplap to the outside of the tub. I also want to exchange the shower curtain for a glass door to open things up a little more.
Brooklyn’s Room

I’m planning to layout Brooklyn’s new room just like her room in our old house. The girl is accumulating toys and stuffed animals though so I’m going to have to figure out an organization system for those things. She’ll probably end up having some of her toys stored in the basement so she can play while we work! I absolutely loved the theme of her room in our old house so I won’t be changing much and I still have everything so once we get the painting done, we’ll hang up her stuff on the walls and be good to go!
Basement

We will be making so many changes in the basement. We’re hoping to make this space a joint work station for Josh and I. I work from home and I’m building an Etsy shop and Josh is building his construction business so we have a lot going on. We need a good space to work on computers and with our tools. Having our office in the basement will be great for easy access to the garage when we need to make shipments and carry in supplies. We’ll also be adding a mudroom space for shoes and coats and a little play area so Brooklyn can spend time with us while we work.
Basement Bathroom

Not much to say about the basement bathroom other than it’s nice to have a third bath for guests and the storage under the stairs has come in handy since the basement isn’t going to be used for storage!
Back Deck

Our plans for the backyard are ever changing. Josh recently moved our camper into the backyard, cut a corner of the deck off and we are thinking of creating an inviting oasis and making our camper an Airbnb. We have thoughts of a garden and a hot tub someday but it’s pretty low priority on the list to make these ideas happen!
Front Porch

I’d like to get a couple chairs and a small table for the front porch. And I want to make some front door signs for each season/holiday throughout the year.
So these pictures are our blank slate and I can’t wait to show you how we make this home ours! I’ll be updating the blog regularly with house updates so stay tuned.
